Passed away on October 11, 2016 peacefully after several years of declining function associated with dementia, at Eden Homes Bells Mill in Bethesda, MD. She had resided for 50 years in Silver Spring, MD and later in Gaithersburg MD. Born on August 11, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Dora Cohen. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph Steinberg, who passed away in 2011 and her son Steven, who passed away in 1997. She is survived by her son, Seth (Terry) Steinberg; her sister, Gloria Halperin; her grandchildren, Michelle and David Steinberg; and a niece and a nephew.
She was a 1938 graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College in New York in 1942. She joined the Army Map Service as a Military Mapping Maiden in 1943 and worked as a cartographer until 1949, when she joined the Navy Hydrographic Office, where she remained until 1951 when her first son was born.
A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, October, 16th at 1 p.m. at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, Virginia. The family will be observing Shiva on Monday October 17, at the home of Seth Steinberg, beginning at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Inn at NIH, to JSSA Hospice, or to the charity of your choice
