Susan Israel Levin
Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 3, 1945, died of causes related to Covid in hospice on Friday January 21, 2022. She was a graduate of Long Island University (BA) and moved to Washington in 1967 to attend the Catholic University School of Social Work (MSW). After several years as a social worker for the DC Action for Children in Trouble, she spent 38 years as the Administrative Director of the Chevy Chase Children's Center, a widely known nursery school and institution in the Chevy Chase Washington community. Susan loved comforting anxious parents, teachers and children alike with a beautiful smile and uplifting spirit. Her school office was the gathering place for all who needed a bit of cheer. She prided herself on never missing a payroll no matter how deep the snow and always having an affinity for the sassiest and biggest troublemakers at the school. She was married for 51 years to Edward R. Levin, an attorney. They travelled the world together and enjoyed their many friends, those of long standing and those they made in their travels. She is survived by her husband, son Matthew Levin of Bethesda, daughter, Emily Levin of Brooklyn, NY, four grandchildren, Jackson, Charlotte, Violet and Priya, brother Henry Israel and sister Barbara Goldner. A devoted mother, stalwart friend, wonderful sister, aunt, devoted, loving and irreverent wife she spent most of her life working with children and believed strongly in social justice - always advocating for those in need and giving generously and often anonymously. She will be missed forever, and her memory will be the greatest of blessings. Funeral services will be private with a celebration of her life in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to children in need.
