Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield) Announces New Head of Monument Services Division
Local family-owned funeral home expands services and celebrates the promotion of Larry Shor to head of Monument Services
Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield), a leading full-service funeral home in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, announces today with its recent expansion of services, it is promoting Larry Shor to head-up their Monument Services division. Larry brings over three decades of experience working within the local Jewish community to provide choir, cantorial, and liturgical services.
Sagel Bloomfield offers a unique service in the local funeral care market, offering their pre-planning clientele the opportunity to purchase monuments, markers, and/or inscriptions directly from the funeral home rather than sending them to deal separately with a cemetery or monument company, often at a higher price. Both Sagel Bloomfield and their customers see this as a value-added service, providing convenience and comfort in a time of need. Sagel Bloomfield is the first funeral home in the area to offer monument services for any and all area cemeteries. In fact, families can buy monuments from Sagel Bloomfield even when another funeral home has performed the initial services.
“We are confident in our decision to move Larry into a leading role for this important service,” said Al Bloomfield, Managing Partner of Sagel Bloomfield. “We launched the Monument Services program in 2015 and have seen major growth in that area. It provides a service for our customers in need, making the entire process much easier for them. That is our ultimate goal—to make our customers more comfortable during their difficult time. Larry brings so much experience caring for the community and his attention to detail makes him perfect to head up this expanding portion of our business.”
“I joined Sagel Bloomfield because doing so allowed me to take what I had learned over the years in various other settings and use that base of knowledge to do something I really feel passionate about,” said Larry Shor. “I’m excited about my new role which will allow me to help people who need to do something difficult, yet very unique and important to them. I will get the opportunity to guide them through the process, making it smoother and easier for them. I am always glad to help people and this new role gives me the opportunity to do so in so many ways.”
Larry, a D.C. native, has a long-standing connection with the local Jewish community, having been appointed as lead singer for a local choir in 1978. He studied under several world-renowned cantors, and has gone on to lead religious services and provide burial services for families in need for over three decades. He was involved in both his parents’ and grandfather’s businesses from his teenage years, learning from the bottom up to management, working with employees and vendors, and putting systems together for efficiency.
Later on, he and his wife, Shari, opened their own business ventures in the wholesale and retail food supply markets. This, along with his experience in leading religious rites, lead to his connection to Sagel Bloomfield. He started out managing their “Shiva Concierge” program, a service to provide all the necessary elements for the standard post-funeral mourning period. This may include prayer books, yarmulkes, coat racks, shiva chairs-delivery and pick up, and catered food for the shiva house as needed. Since then, Larry has moved into helping in other areas of Sagel Bloomfield’s services and finally into a lead position with Monument Services. He feels very strongly that his liturgical training and deep connection to the local community help him provide the best service to clients dealing with the heavy issue of funeral care.
In addition to all of Larry’s other community activities, he also co-hosts with his son Ben a weekly radio show entitled “Washington Jewish Radio” on several radio stations and live-streamed on the show’s website, http://washingtonjewishradio.com.

Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield) Reaches Next Milestone in its Expansion of Funeral and Memorial Chapel Partners
Local family-owned funeral home answers the call of customer demand, now totals 12 total Partners throughout the DMV
Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield), a leading full-service funeral home in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, announces today that it has reached a new milestone in its continued growth and expansion of Funeral and Memorial Chapel Partners with a total of 12 organizations.
This focus on forging partnerships with local area organizations came in response to changing customer needs and demands. Specifically, there continues to be an increased preference to hold services at the graveside or in a religious facility as opposed to a funeral chapel itself. Going forward, Sagel Bloomfield customers will have greater choice in style, location, and details of services for their family members.
The 12 Funeral and Memorial Chapel Partners consist of multiple types of organizations across the DMV region from Fulton, Potomac, Olney, Bethesda, and Rockville, MD to Falls Church, VA and in between. From synagogues and churches to hotels and event venues, the continued addition to its list has come as a direct response to increasing customer demand and changing funeral service preferences.
The continued forward momentum in the expansion of Sagel Bloomfield’s area Funeral and Memorial Chapel Partners also follows the achievement of additional milestones in Sagel Bloomfield’s growth to-date. In December 2015, the organization relocated to an ultra-modern 6,500 square foot facility in the Talbott Center on Rockville Pike, which does not include a chapel for the actual funeral service to occur.
“This success we have achieved to-date in expanding our Funeral and Memorial Chapel Partners is a testament to the commitment we uphold to meet our customer’s changing needs, while providing them with options and seasoned expertise for a personalized, stress-free experience to honor a loved one,” said Al Bloomfield, Funeral Director, Co-Owner and Managing Partner of Sagel Bloomfield. “This philosophy is at the center of all that we do, and we look forward to bringing the best the area has to offer to create memorable, personal funeral and memorial services for our customers and their families going forward.”

Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield) Adds Kol Shalom Synagogue to Growing List of Funeral and Memorial Chapel Partners
Building on long relationship with Sagel Bloomfield, Kol Shalom welcomes this new partnership to offer worship space to families in response to changing funeral service preferences
Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield), a leading full-service funeral home in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, announces its newest funeral and memorial chapel partnership with Kol Shalom Synagogue in Rockville, Maryland. This collaboration is an outgrowth of the long relationship between the two organizations and comes in response to the growing demand for accommodations around changing funeral service preferences.
Kol Shalom’s Rabbi Jonathan Z. Maltzman has known Sagel Bloomfield’s co-managing partner, Edward Sagel, and worked with him since the early 1990s. Since he became Rabbi at Kol Shalom in 2002, members of his congregation have used Sagel Bloomfield and its predecessor Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels on numerous occasions and have appreciated the level of service and care. According to the Rabbi, the co-owners, Ed Sagel and Al Bloomfield, are very attentive to the clergy as well as the families using their services.
In December 2015, Sagel Bloomfield will be relocating its office to an ultra-modern 6,500 square foot facility in The Talbott Center at 1091 Rockville Pike, which is located across Rockville Pike from the original Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels location. Responding to the overall trend and increasing client preference for having funeral services at the graveside or a religious facility instead of the traditional funeral chapel, Sagel Bloomfield’s new facility will not include a place for the actual funeral service to occur. Sagel Bloomfield is coordinating agreements with area synagogues, temples and other organizations to establish funeral and memorial chapel partnerships to provide families with a variety of options for the funeral service location.
“We are finding that more and more families prefer to come to a synagogue or have a graveside service versus going to an outside funeral chapel,” said Rabbi Maltzman of Kol Shalom. “In order to best serve Kol Shalom, we needed funeral partners who can support the desires of our members as well as advise them and help plan for this stressful, emotional and confusing time.”
Among the numerous benefits Rabbi Maltzman and his congregation have seen through their experiences with Sagel Bloomfield are their reasonably priced funeral packages and focus on encouraging pre-planning for families to jump-start the thought process around these issues well before the need arises. Maltzman has mirrored these priorities in his daily work by speaking about the benefits of pre-planning to his congregation. These efforts have since resulted in several members of Kol Shalom community visiting Sagel Bloomfield to begin the pre-planning process.
“We value our partnership with Kol Shalom and the opportunity to provide the highest levels of service to their members needs,” said Ed Sagel, Funeral Director, Managing Partner and Co-Owner. “We are listening and responding to the needs of the consumer market place to support this shift and provide families with a resource to make the funeral process more convenient and less stressful for families. Our new location and partnerships with organizations such as Kol Shalom allows us to be readily available to deliver simple, flexible and convenient funeral packages at the location the family chooses for the funeral service and concentrate on what’s truly important to us. In addition, we’re offering appointments to visit our brand new location.”

Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield) Answers the Call with Advanced Funeral Planning Solution
With a nationwide 80 percent increase in belief in funeral prearrangement, Sagel Bloomfield leads the charge on educating the local DC market
Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield), a leading full-service funeral home in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, releases insight and launches new Advanced Planning Assessment to support the growing need for education surrounding advanced funeral planning. With the release of the assessment and dedicated resources behind preplanning, Sagel Bloomfield’s objective is to provide the local consumer market with a better understanding of end-of-life expenses and the advantages of advanced funeral planning to decrease financial stress; avoid funeral costs increasing; and ensure personal wishes and preferences are taken care of.
A nationwide consumer survey conducted by the Wirthlin Group found that 80 percent of Americans “believe funeral prearrangement is a good idea.” Millions of Americans are starting to recognize the importance for advanced planning due to the cost of funerals ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 and beyond in all areas of the country. At the national and local level, the cost of funerals doubles about every 10 to 15 years, resulting in a growing significance for consumers to be aware of the differentiating costs of funerals in the area they live in and throughout the country. In the Washington D.C. area, the average cost of funerals is around $9,000.
With hundreds of decisions to be made during funeral planning, it can be rather difficult and stressful to gather funds for a service desired by your loved one in a short period of time. Individuals and families tend to spend less when planning in advance than they do in an immediate at-need situation.
The benefits of Advanced Planning with Sagel Bloomfield include the following:
Sagel Bloomfield’s new Advanced Planning Assessment guides customers and their families through each step of the process and answers all questions or concerns.
“Through merging two funeral firms and serving various families within the local area, we have seen an increase in interest and need for education on advanced planning and end-of-life expenses. Our Advanced Planning Assessment allows individuals and families to learn and discuss advanced planning in a comfortable environment,” said Brian Deibler, Director of Advanced Planning at Sagel Bloomfield. “Our staff is committed to guiding customers through each decision, relieving loved ones of the emotional stress and financial burden of making quick funeral decisions and arrangements alone at a most difficult time.”
Additionally, through the advanced planning process and their full suite of funeral packages including the Fair and Realistic Pricing Plan (FRPP); Shiva Concierge; and Simplicity Plan for non-Jewish families, Sagel Bloomfield can help customers identify and determine the right funeral plan for them or their loved one. While cemeteries and monument dealers offer a range of products and services, working with them often incurs additional costs and stress at an emotional time in an individual and/or family’s life. Sagel Bloomfield’s new offering is the latest demonstration of its commitment to making all aspects of a funeral service easy and simple for their families. Further, Sagel Bloomfield’s new Monument Design services are available for purchase even when another funeral home provides the initial services, extending the company’s long-standing promise to deliver top-quality, personalized services at cost-effective rates.
“As experts in the funeral industry, we know the process of designing and selecting a monument can be extremely stressful and some families even say it’s harder than the actual funeral was. Our fair pricing and no pressure sales philosophy of “people before profits” creates a comfortable environment where families are put at ease. When a family elects to work with us for their monument needs, they are already comfortable and familiar with our caring and professional staff. Families that have not worked with us for their funeral needs will immediately feel comfortable with our warm and nurturing staff who shares in our sales philosophy of “people before profits,” said Al Bloomfield, Funeral Director, Co-Owner and Managing Partner of Sagel Bloomfield.

Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield) Announces Business Relaunch through Acquisition to Transition to Independent Ownership and ‘Merge History with the Future,’ while Expanding Service Offerings, Capabilities
This business relaunch merges two firms into one to enhance and improve funeral services across the Washington, DC metropolitan area and position the organization for future growth with new location set to begin construction on July 1, 2015
Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc. (Sagel Bloomfield), a leading full-service funeral home in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, announces today its business relaunch through the acquisition and merging of two funeral firms into one entity under new name, to transition to independent ownership by funeral directors, Edward Sagel and Albert Bloomfield. This latest achievement will continue to strengthen the funeral home’s high-quality funeral services and dedication to providing focused attention and excellent customer care to families and the community during times of need. Additionally, Sagel Bloomfield will build on its previous growth and success to deliver expanded capabilities and services in a larger new location that is set to begin construction on July 1, 2015.
Edward Sagel is a first-generation funeral director who began his career in 1991. He later founded Sagel Funeral Direction in 1994, which he sold to Service Corporation International (SCI)/Dignity Memorial two years later. Sagel successfully managed both firms for SCI. As a result of the management success, high reputation, strong community ties and industry expertise, the FTC divestiture allowed Sagel and Albert Bloomfield, a funeral director for 21 years, to purchase both Sagel Funeral Direction and Danzansky Goldberg Memorial Chapels from SCI and form one funeral home, Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, Inc.
“Our business relaunch of the joint firms is a key element of our hands-on approach and commitment to the combination of simple, flexible, funeral options with the highest level of customer service, driven by personalized care and compassion for families and the community,” said Edward Sagel, Funeral Director, Co-Owner and Managing Partner of Sagel Bloomfield. “We are excited about the future and we look forward to better serving the community in every way that we can!”
Sagel Bloomfield’s relaunch also strongly positions the organization to deliver a unique blend of traditional funeral services and customs with more contemporary, forward-thinking practices to better service the families and community of the Greater Washington area and bridge the gap between the needs of older customers with younger families of Jewish, Christian, Catholic, and Asian faiths. The company’s key service offerings include:
Full-spectrum, cost-effective funeral services, to align with each family’s unique style, needs, and budget and create a meaningful ceremony celebrating the life and individuality of their loved ones;
Simple, flexible, and convenient funeral packages, bringing the best service the funeral industry has to offer to Sagel Bloomfield’s customers at competitive prices with genuine compassion for families along with a dedicated commitment to the larger community; and
A number of forward-thinking, progressive service enhancements, to consistently evolve its approach and offerings as societal needs and norms change, including:
As of July 1, 2015, Sagel Bloomfield will begin the construction and relocation of its office to an ultra-modern 6,500 square foot facility in The Talbott Center on Rockville Pike, across the street from the current site of Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Home.
“It’s a busy and exciting time for us, our client families, and the local community. Not only are we starting the construction of our new location across the street, but we will also be introducing a number of enhanced and innovative services over the upcoming weeks and months,” said Albert Bloomfield, Funeral Director, Co-Owner and Managing Partner of Sagel Bloomfield. “We are proud to continue to grow our local footprint.”
